Health, both physical and mental, affects the quality of our lives significantly. It determines our faculty to live life at its fullest, to feel and absorb the beauty that surrounds us. It is impossible to appreciate the beauty of nature if we suffer a migraine or when stressed with constant chatter in our heads. Health is also the basis for our continuous path to emotional, intellectual, spiritual and occupational wellness. We cannot be mindful if we are anxious nor engage in meaningful social interactions if we suffer from depression. To illustrate with an anecdote, imagine someone that has a full bladder trying to participate in a philosophical discussion. He will only be thinking of one thing, and it will not be Plato :). In the same way, our ailments prevent us from being mindful, having clarity and sensibility to the information around us.
I have always been amazed by how differently we can experience an event or activity, depending on how we are. The same action, like playing a note on a guitar, can be experienced as a dull sound one day and as blissful, warm, and vibrant another. This realization, amplified by the fact that I have a weak back and, therefore, unstable health, propelled me to my journey for health.
